In an exciting move for retro gaming fans, Konami embarks on a nostalgic journey through its rich history in 2024. The company teams up with Limited Run Games to revive a selection of its iconic 8-bit and 16-bit era platform games.
This revival introduces two distinct collections – one showcasing the adventures of Felix the Cat and the other celebrating the action-packed Rocket Knight series. These collections are set to launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch platforms.
The Felix the Cat collection brings back the cherished NES and Game Boy titles, originally published by Hudson Soft in 1992 and 1993. These games, especially the NES version, have become collectors’ items, fetching high prices in the vintage gaming market.
Konami plans to release these platformers both digitally and in physical formats. The latter will be available through Limited Run Games, boasting enhancements like save states and other modern gameplay improvements, thanks to Limited Run’s Carbon Engine technology.
Alongside Felix the Cat, Konami and Limited Run Games are also excited to reintroduce the Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked collection. This compilation includes the Sega Genesis classics ‘Rocket Knight Adventures’ and ‘Sparkster: Rocket Knight Adventures 2,’ as well as ‘Sparkster’ for the Super NES.
The Re-Sparked collection comes with a fresh animated introduction, a rewind feature, a challenging boss rush mode, and a museum section showcasing exclusive content.
Konami hints at more Carbon Engine-powered re-releases in the future, with an announcement planned for February 24. Pre-orders for the physical editions of Felix the Cat begin on February 9 and extend until March 10. Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked pre-orders start on January 19 and conclude on March 3.
